چکیده

Fixed chromosome preparations subjected to treatments such as pH 9 (I) or trypsin hydrolysis (2) and stained with Giemsa's demonstrate similar banding patterns irrespective of the pretreatments used. It has been shown that this phenomenon is the result of modifications of DNA-protein and protein-protein associations which alter dye interaction (3-5). It appears that only Giemsa's or related staining solutions can produce the characteristic banding after appropriate treatment (6), and therefore, the present study was designed to identify those corn-

Giemsa banding of chromosome 1gh+ and linkage analysis.

A four-generation transmission of 1qh+ chromosome was ascertained by routine chromosome analysis of a mildly dysmorphic and retarded 61/2-year-old female. Concordance between synophrys and the 1qh+ marker was the only consistent phenotypic relationship. The variant chromosome did not appear uncoiled, and Giemsa centromeric staining (C-bands) revealed an increased width of the heterochromatin co...

G and/or C-bands in plant chromosomes?

Similarities and differences become evident from comparisons of centromeric and non-centromeric banding patterns in plant and animal chromosomes. Similar to C and G-banding in animals (at least most of the reptiles, birds and mammals), centromeric and nucleolus-organizing region bands as well as interstitially and/or terminally located non-centromeric bands may occur in plants, depending on the...

The topographic structure of Giemsa banded (G-banded) early met

The topographic structure of Giemsa banded (G-banded) early metaphase human chromosomes adsorbed on glass was analyzed by atomic force microscope using amplitude modulation mode [AMAFM]. Longitudinal height measurements for early metaphasic human chromosomes showed a central ridge that was further characterized by transversal height measurements. The heterochromatic regions displayed a high lev...

Chromosome structure as revealed by a combined chemical and immunochemical procedure.

Human metaphase chromosomes were photooxidized in the presence of methylene blue, a process that destroys guanine residues in DNA. Indirect immunofluorescence showed that such chromosomes reacted with a cytosine-specific antibody revealing a consistent fluorescent banding pattern by which each chromosome could be identified. The observed fluorescent patterns were the reverse of those produced i...
